New York: Random House, 1970. First Edition. 8vo. Brown cloth boards in dust jacket. Moderate edgewear and toning/light soil to jacket, with some foxing to jacket verso and edges of page block. Faint smudge to rear endpaper; pages otherwise unmarked. Very good plus in very good jacket. (Item ID: 23579)

First-person narrative by the chairman and co-founder of the Black Panther Party, written during his time in the San Francisco County Jail with the assistance of reporter Arthur Goldberg: "We're not the vanguard because we wanted to be, but because it was given to us through the blood and death of our members, and because nearly one hundred of us at present are political prisoners." Sentenced to four years' imprisonment for contempt, Seale was further charged in 1970 as one of the New Haven 14 for alleged involvement in the murder of Alex Rackley; the charges were dropped and Seale was released in 1972.
