Published on the occasion of the production of the Knee Plays, the American section from Robert Wilson's "The CIVIL warS: a tree is best measured when it is down." Designed to be set between the fifteen fully staged scenes of the Wilson opera, each knee play was to be performed during scene changes and was created collaboratively by Wilson, David Byrne, and choreographer Suzushi Hanayagi. Booklet describes the genesis and concept of these theatrical pieces, with texts, synopses, and staging diagrams. With original program from the November 1986 production at Washington DC's Warner Theatre. Includes insert with cast biographies.
