Mystery novel by Stein, who wrote prolifically under the name "George Bagby" but also published both as himself and as "Hampton Stone. ...AND HIGH WATER features a pair of detective-archeologists, recurring characters in his novels under his own name. Stein's earliest novels were heavily influenced by psychology and modernist technique; he would gain considerably more popular acclaim and success following his transition to detective stories in the mid-1930s.
