Price: $50.00

Lans-en-Vercors: Locus Solus, 1961. First Edition. Small 8vo. Original printed wraps. Ex-libris Gerard Malanga, with his signature in red ink in upper right corner of title page. Covers and spine suffer some soiling; edges and corners lightly bumped. Spine creased. Interior toned at edges. Small green ink stain to fore-edge only. About very good. 205pp. (Item ID: 22113)

Previously owned and signed by poet Gerard Malanga, a Warhol associate and friend of John Ashbery. Though LOCUS SOLUS has often been called "the overseas wing of the New York School" (Clay and Phillips p. 169), it was in many ways the defining publication of the first generation of that movement. Edited by three of its major members (Ashbery, Koch, and Schuyler - who shared duties on a rotating basis), it was intended - in the words of Schuyler, who edited this premier issue - as "a riposte at THE NEW AMERICAN POETRY, which has so thoroughly misrepresented so many of us" (quoted from a letter to Ashbery in Daniel Kane's ALL POETS WELCOME p. 24).
