New York: D. Garber, [ca. 1880-1900]. Commercial card, 6.5" by 4", with print adhered to front, 5.5" by 4". Photographer's logo and information to verso, with contemporary signature ("J.H. Royer") and penciled note: " 'Her native name is Bra[...] / aged 3yrs + 9mos.' / from dup.," with a chip obscuring the rest of the child's name. Very good overall, with corners a bit chipped and overall a bit toned, quite well-preserved overall. (Item ID: 21432)

A strange photograph, printed and apparently taken at Davis Garber's studio at 747 Broadway in New York, depicting an older white man holding the hand of a small African child. With almost no information other than the note from the duplicate, an unsettling image indeed.
