np: np, [1960s?]. First American edition. 12mo. Perfect-bound photographic wraps. Uniformly very good. Spines show some reading wear, and covers a bit rubbed and/or creased. Interiors largely clean, several showing light touches of soil; bindings sound throughout. Several illustrated with B&W photographs. (Item ID: 21268)

A lovely collection of anonymous sleaze paperbacks, each bearing colorful psychedelic photos and the publisher's note "Complete & Unexpurgated - First American Printing" on the covers, with no other information present in any edition. All titles were originally published by Olympia Press, the 50s and 60s Paris-based publisher of erotica and banned literature (including Burroughs, Genet, Bataille, and the first edition of Nabokov's LOLITA). One title, DESIRE AND HELEN, was written by the novelist Alexander Trocchi under the pseudonym Frances Lengel. A fascinatingly produced series of books, both for their shifty ambiguity and the covers, which in many ways evoke Bruce Conner's late 60s light show slides shown at Grateful Dead shows and other concerts.
