Philadelphia: Jay Emanuel Publications, Inc., (1947). First Edition. 4to. Red leather grained cloth. Silver reflective and orange ink titles to front, spine. Light internal foxing near endpapers. Otherwise near fine. 584pp. with fold-out blueprint tipped to p. 239. (Item ID: 21055)

A highly technical, illustrated operations reference for motion picture theatre owners. Publisher Jay Emanuel sought to coordinate previously scattered resources into a single volume, and the publication of this and similar guides between 1939 and 1970 served that purpose admirably. Lavishly produced, this edition is the fifth installment in the "Theatre Catalog" series. Divided into four sections: Design and Construction; Equipment; Management; and Future Developments. With subsections to each containing detailed original articles and illustrated dealer advertisements throughout. A particularly notable article on construction of The Nabor Theatre (Little Rock, Arkansas), built to serve "both white and colored patrons," outlines the planning and construction of separate seating and restroom facilities for African-Americans. An exhaustive overview of motion picture theaters in the postwar boom years with original content and hundreds of period images. Highly ephemeral, as dated content undoubtedly led to disposal of most copies. OCLC notes three holdings, two in the US.
