Final issue of this important little magazine of radical architecture. Proclaiming in this issue's editorial that "[a]rchitecture students are restless," the young Archigram group operated from a utopian futurist viewpoint, envisioning a psychedelic, Buckminster Fuller-inspired future, with technology leading the way in creating a better world. As Mike Webb put it, the group was founded "because we felt at the time that very exciting things were happening [in architecture], as indeed they were," particularly in the US -- but London lacked an avant garde and felt "empty and lifeless" [CLIP STAMP FOLD, p. 27]. ARCHIGRAM NINE consists of explosive, multicolored ilustrations of architectural projects, both real and imagined, involving a diverse array of ideas including the robotization of daily life and "whole earth" systems theories. Above all, the intent of the magazine was to indulge in a kind of inspirational reverie -- as expressed in the editorial, "the objective is quite sharp: to get things moving by the collective effort and dynamic of everybody who might read ARCHIGRAM 9."
