(Harvard, MA): (YUK, Inc.), nd. First Edition. 8vo. Saddle-stapled photographic wraps. Very good plus. INSCRIBED by Lessem to half title. Light dampstaining, minimal scuffing to wraps. Interior a touch toned, but clean throughout. Binding sound. Unpaginated. 0934452016 (Item ID: 19727)

Photographically illustrated "screenplay," telling the story of a "nerd" named Donald Discopoulous who develops an interest in roller discos as a place to meet women. Unskilled at skating, Don designs a helmet on wheels which he uses to skate on his head, and eventually turns the production of such helmets into a business (gaining much publicity by selling one to Andy Warhol). His former love interest, Ruta, sees Donald on TV, and travels across the country to meet him, but before reaching him dies at a Roller Derby due to a malfunctioning helmet. A humorous record of the roller-disco fad, portrayed here as an omnipredsent youth craze on which "corporate types" were eager to cash in. Lessem, the author, donated profits from the book to animal rights education, and would go on to found two educational groups, the Dinosaur Society and the Jurassic Foundation. A scarce title, especially signed.
