Philadelphia: R. Chaney Enterprises, 1969. 12" by 10. Printed text and image, with adhered paper (his beard) and glitter glued over text. Fine. (Item ID: 19212)

An early example of Black Santa imagery. Predates, by four years, the cult-classic funk song "Santa Claus is a Black Man" by Teddy Vann, which is widely acknowledged as one of the earlist depictions of an African-American Santa Claus in pop culture. This poster's tone appears to belie a less-than-earnest attempt (compared with Vann's) to provide Black children with a Santa of their own, and is perhaps a bit exploitative? Nonetheless an important early relic, of what sadly remains a disputed countertradition of Christmas in the U.S. Publisher's information taken from verso, which also notes "Quick Cash Fund Raisers."
