Price: $750.00

New York: Standard Slide Corp., [ca. 1920]. Collection of seven (7) lantern slides hand-colored in transparent dyes on glass. In original tape casings. Well preserved, each about near fine. (Item ID: 19173)

An uncommonly well-preserved and beautiful collection of silent-era movie-house marketing slides, ca. 1920. Intended for projection as movie-goers made their way to seats, and during intermissions, reel changes, film repairs, and the like, the slides are colorfully executed in a striking Deco style. Messages vary from announcements of coming attractions to pleas for quiet children. Slide titles include: "Complete Change of Program Tomorrow," "The Management of This Theatre Will be Glad to Hear from Anyone Who Has a Just Criticism..." etc. While slides promoting upcoming attractions produced by movie studios are relatively common, in-house slides such as these are decidely more ephemeral. A scarce survival and an attractive relic of the silent-film era and early American cinema.
