An early and important anthology of gay fiction. Though not all authors are known as gay, all stories address homosexuality more or less openly, depicting both male and female relationships. Contributors include D.H. Lawrence, William Carlos Williams, Henry James, and a work attributed to Oscar Wilde ("The Priest and the Acolyte") later correctly attributed to John Francis Bloxam (the story depicts a love relationship between a priest and an altar boy). Edward Sagarain, under the Cory pen name, is known in part for writing several groundbreaking books on homosexuality in the 1950s and 60s, most notably THE HOMOSEXUAL IN AMERICA: A Subjective Approach (1951). [Young 572].
