Boston: Printing Department of the Library Bureau, 1900. Small 4to. Maroon cloth hardcover. Gilt title lettering to front board, spine. No dust jacket. Cloth prominently discolored at edges, spine. Manuscript annotations to text. Overall sound; very good. (Item ID: 15593)

A generously illustrated trade catalog from the Library Bureau company of Boston. Formed by Melville Dewey in 1876, to outfit American libraries with shelving, supplies, card catalog cabinets, furniture, etc..., the company quickly rose to become the leading manufacturer and distributor of such equipment, furnishing many of the new Carnegie Libraries constructed between the 1880's and 1920's, thus largely defining the predominant design aesthetic of the 20th Century library. Records indicate the company produced an illustrated catalog as early as 1886 and OCLC notes this edition as well as those from 1890, 1897, 1899; it shows 24 holdings of this 1900 issue with many major institutions lacking. Uncommon. 161pp.
