London: George Redway, 1899. First Edition. 8vo. Navy blue cloth hardcover. Blindstamped publisher's logo to front board. Gilt title lettering to spine. No dust jacket. Mid shelf rubbing to cloth. Light foxing at endpapers. Overall clean, sound. (Item ID: 15402)

An uncommon Victorian-era work on occult phenomena. Ownership inscription of a Dr. J.C. Hoffman of Chicago, dated November 1901 to first endpaper. A 1906 Collier's article identifies Hoffman as a noted "quack" physician, advertising in local papers a "never-failing, harmless home cure" for addiction to morphine, opium, or laudanum that, upon investigation, proved to be nothing more than morphine disguised. With several instances of marginalia in his hand. 330pp.
