Manuscript ledger entries throughout the text contain information in three fields including patient name, services rendered and charges incurred. Procedures often recorded include: vision tests, glucose monitoring, and, routine examinations, of children and adults. Charges generally range from $2.00 to $5.00 per visit and many patients appear to keep credit accounts. Monthly totals of gross receipts, credit accounts and payroll are also entered. A rich primary record of a general physician's practice in the South in the late 1950s and a valuable business portrait of being a small-town doctor.
