Indianapolis, IN: Eli Lily and Company, [ca. 1883]. 8vo. Pamphlet. Illustrated title design to front cover. Upper corners with tearing. Areas of loss to final page and rear cover. Sound, unmarked. Well preserved. (Item ID: 15085)

An informational pamphlet on McDade's Remedy for the treatment of Syphilis, reprinted from the British Medical Journal. Primarily an anecdotal tale of seeing Native American medicine-men near Montgomery, AL cure the disease with an herbal blend, during his time practicing medicine there with Dr. George McDade in the 1830's. Dr. J. Marion Sims was a profoundly important American physician and pioneer in the field of modern gynecology. His medical experiments with African-American slaves have made his legacy and accomplishments highly controversial among modern historians and ethicists. An early pharmaceutical industry publication. 7pp.
