Babson Park, MA: Oil Statistics Company, 1967. First Edition. 4to. Plastic comb bound. Date in ink to front cover. Ocassional ink notations to interior. Otherwise clean, sound. (Item ID: 14941)

A prospectus on opportunities for investment in Shale Oil, produced by Oil Statistics Co. of Babson Park, Massachusetts, a reasearch firm associated with noted early 20th Century financial theorist, Roger Babson. Text focuses primarily on deposit potential in Colorado, with detailed company profiles, land sale records, stock charts, projections, etc... Illustrated with several maps, one fold-out and one laid-in U.S. Department of the Interior Geological Suvery map of Colorado's Grand Valley Quadrangle, not original to the piece. The bulk of the booklet profiles six companies for speculative investment opportunity including: Oil Shale Corporation, Texas American Oil, Western Oil Shale Corp., Utah Shale Land, Equity Oil Corp. and EG&G, Inc. A brief entry to pp.21 titled: "The Bomb" also notes the potential for profit the atomic energy business held in shale oil production. A short-lived experiment by the U.S. Atomic Commission in 1967, dubbed "Project Gasbuggy", detonated a nuclear bomb deep below the New Mexico desert in the hopes of applying atomic weapons as viable tools in oil extraction. A rich document of Shale Oil's history and of financial speculation.
