(Detroit): (Hamer Bros. / Hamer-Paskins), (1920-ca. 1952). Oblong 4to. black textured three-ring binder. 9" x 12" approx. Contains 115 B&W silver gelatin photographic prints dated 1920-1952. 45 in 8" x 10" format, many backed in linen, hole-punched and inserting directly into binder. Remainder various sizes, most 3x5 or snapshot, mounted to standard black photo pages. Generally very good. A few leaves separated from binder rings. Some mild edge-wear here and there. Else sound, clean, and apparently complete. (Item ID: 14196)

Largely chronological photographic record of the construction and engineering projects of Hamer Bros. of Detroit, MI. Likely produced either for company archives or for marketing and promotional purposes, the album showcases the highway and heavy construction firm's many works in and around the Motor City. The earliest images, from 1920, are of an Osgood Co. steam shovel loading earth onto mule-drawn carts. Remainder of album effectively showcases pile driving, water diversion, bridge building and demolition (including a dynamic image of a river dynamite blast). Photos exhibit consistent clarity and competent composition, with most prints described either in caption or negative with date, location, job, etc. Projects include: railroad grade separation; Mississippi lock construction (Wisconsin); Ford Motor Company factory/warehouse construction; Grand Truck Western Railroad bridge removal; Henkel Flour Mill foundation pile setting; Goebel Brewing Company river retention wall -- among others. A collection of depth and scope.
