London: Constable and Company Ltd., 1929. Later edition. 12mo. Beige cloth. Very good plus. Mild rubbing, soil to cloth. INSCRIBED by Shaw to the half-title: "Inscribed to / Alfred G. Arvold / in grateful acknowledgement of his / services to dramatic art in virgin fields / in the United States of America. / G. Bernard Shaw / Malvern / 29th Aug. 1930." 320pp. plus ads. (Item ID: 13922)

A warm and revealing inscription from the Nobel winning playwright to Alfred G. Arvold, who was instrumental in the US for the development and spread of the "little theater" movement. He was a noted regional theater figure and founded the Little Country Theater in Fargo, ND. Inscribed to him by Shaw at the Malvern Theater, whose yearly festivals were noted for the stagings of Shaw's plays. An uncommonly detailed and lengthy inscription.
