Sauk City, WI: Arkham House, 1945. First Edition. Small 8vo. Very good plus in a good jacket. Jacket toned with some rubbing. A few mall chips at edges. Clean closed tear at fold of rear panel at spine; unobtrusive, not noticeable under Brodart. Book has touches of shelfwear INSCRIBED by Derleth: "To Claude Held / In memory of H.P.L. / Sincerely, / August Derleth." (Item ID: 13329)

Posthumous novel completed from Lovecraft's notes and fragments by the co-founder of Arkham House Press. In Stephen Jones' HORROR: The 100 Best Books, Graham Masterson calls LURKER (coming in at #47), "a joy because it is so magnificently and unselfoncsciously overwritten." With a warm and appropriate inscription; indeed, Derleth titled his memoir from the same year of his friendship with Lovecraft "H.P.L." One of 3000 copies, the first (and longest) of the numerous posthumous "collaborations" between Lovecraft and arguably his most important supporter. Uncommon signed. [Owings p. 23].
