London: Fulcrum Press, (1968). First Edition. 8vo. Original wraps. INSCRIBED by Ginsberg to Philip Whalen: "For Philip Whalen / Allen / May 22, 1970." With photographs by Alexandra Lawrence. Touches of rubbing, soil. Near fine. (Item ID: 12978)

An important association between these two Beat poets. Whalen and Ginsberg were life-long friends and taught together at Naropa. Whalen also served as model for two Kerouac characters: Warren Coughlin (THE DHARMA BUMS) and Ben Fagan (DESOLATION ANGELS). Most famously, Whalen read with Ginsberg at the Six Gallery when ìHowlî was performed for the first time. Simultaneous paperback issue of this long poem written during the Ginsberg's travels in Southeast Asia. [Morgan A14.a3].
